The Sri Lanka Cursillo Movement
50 Years of Cursillo (1964 - 2014)

At the invitation of His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Ponniah Joseph, a group from the Inter Diocesan Secretariat (IDS) together with its Chaplain Rev. Fr. Tony Martyn visited Batticaloa and conducted a programme at Bishop’s House on 1st October 2013 to introduce the Cursillo Movement to the Priests and Religious of the Batticaloa Diocese. There was a participation of around 50 priests and 20 religious sisters from different congregations.

Sr. Crescentia initiated the programme as President of the IDS She presenting the History of the Movement in brief in Spain and in Sri Lanka referring to the untiring effort made by the Late Rev. Fr. Theophane Wicramaratne (O.S.B.) to introduce the Movement in Sri Lanka and the status of the Movement in Sri Lanka at present.

Sr. Shirani took over from there explaining the Strategy and the Method of the Movement. While explaining the Post Cursillo Section witnessing was done by Bros. Sunil, Boyd, Ramesh and Sr. Rosemarie to prove that the method is not mere theory but is currently happening in different environments in our country. Emphasis was also laid on Deepening Union with God and the need for Prayer Support – Palanca.

Fr. Tony concluded the programme by presenting the Place of the Movement in the Church

Fr. Deva from Batticloa in his vote of thanks mentioned that he was very much touched by the truths presented and that Cursillo is definitely an effective instrument to evangelize the world.

It is our fervent hope that we will in the coming year be able to conduct at least one Cursillo Weekend in this Diocese thereby extending the Movement to one other new Diocese.

Let us give praise and Glory to Our mighty God
